The 4th Asia Conference of International Building Performance Simulation Association (ASim 2018) was held on 3-5 December 2018 in Hong Kong, China. This event was organized by IBPSA-China and co-organized by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

The conference was well attended. More than 200 scholars and researchers from China, Korea, Japan, Singapore, India, Malaysia, Australia, Indonesia, UAE and so on participated in this event. This conference received a total of 140 papers for oral presentation and 30 papers for poster presentation. 3 student authors are awarded “The Best Student Paper Award” and 1 student author is awarded “The Best Poster Award”.

ASim 2018 conference included a plenary session with 3 keynote speeches and parallel sessions with 3 workshops and 27 oral sections. ASim 2018 had discussions on following topics:

  • Building physics
  • Simulation and real performance
  • Simulation in design practice
  • Simulation for regulation/code compliance and certification
  • Software/Interface development, test and validation
  • Simulation to support commissioning, controls and monitoring
  • Case studies of building simulation application
  • Community/Urban scale modelling and simulation
  • Occupant behavior in buildings
  • Indoor environment: comfort, air quality, lighting and acoustic
  • Optimization of control and design
  • BIM and BEM
  • Uncertainty and sensitivity analysis
  • Machine learning and data-driven model

This conference provided a platform for academics, professionals, consultants, designers, engineers and research students to exchange ideas and improve knowledge over building performance simulation. The event also enhanced the research cooperation between faculties from different countries and regions.

The 5th event of this biennial conference will be held in Osaka, Japan, in 2020.
